Your photo becomes the tattoo

Every portrait starts from your photos, so the clearer they are, the more of your pet I can carry onto your skin: the tilt of an ear, the look in their eyes. I print the drawing and hold it against you to get the size and placement right before we start.

On the day I show you a black and grey and a colour version, so you can choose with the design in front of you. Not sure your photos are good enough? Here's how to take them.

Fresh and healed

The same portrait on the day and once it has settled into the skin.

  • The same Pomeranian tattoo once healed
Fresh tattoo of a Pomeranian's face on a forearm
    FreshHealed
  • The same Cavalier and flowers tattoo once healed
Fresh tattoo of a Cavalier King Charles spaniel framed by flowers on the back of an arm

This is the first time that I had a tattoo without using numbing cream. When I had my consultation with Nicolly I explained how I have been known to pass out during the procedure. Luckily for me…

I couldn’t be happier with my tattoo from Nicolly today! She brought my vision of my dog Honey to life so beautifully the detail in the fur, the expression, and the delicate flowers are absolutely stunning. From start to finish she was so kind, patient, and professional, making sure I was comfortable and happy with every part of the design. [...] You can really tell how much care and talent she puts into her work. This tattoo means so much to me and she captured Honey…

I am over the moon, her talent is insane, my boy Barney passed away and I wanted a pet portrait of him. Amazed how it’s even possible to have a tattoo capture his expression, cannot thank her enough and I highly recommend! [...]

5* experience. [...] Her talent is astounding, creating a memorial piece for me for my dog who passed away last year. She spoke with care, and clearly put lots of thought into the design. She was friendly and caring throughout the whole process. Would 100% recommend.

Pet portrait questions

What's the smallest pet portrait you do?
5 cm. Any smaller and there isn't room for the detail to age well: tattoos soften and spread a little over the years, and a tiny portrait can lose its definition and become hard to recognise. I want yours to stay clear for many years, not just look good while it's fresh.
Black and grey or colour?
You don't have to decide on your own. I prepare two versions, one in black and grey and one in colour, and show you both on the day so you can choose before we start. You can tell me which you're leaning towards in the form.
Which photos should I send?
As many as you have, and mark the ones you love most. That helps me choose the one that works best as a tattoo and means the most to you. How to take a good photo.
Can you put ashes in the ink?
I'm sorry, I don't. I keep my setup as sterile and controlled as possible, using only products made for tattooing, and I can't guarantee that cremation ashes are sterile or how they'd react in the skin. Some brands sell ink with the ashes already mixed in, but I've never worked with them, so I couldn't promise you how the tattoo would heal. I've worked to the same hygiene standards since I started tattooing in 2019, and it's not something I'm willing to compromise on.
